Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your family?
I was born in Durango, Mexico. I come from a large family of eleven brothers and sisters and I am happily married and have two children. Both boys are now college students. The majority of my family lives in Newton, except my youngest brother and sister. They live in Mexico and I like to go visit them every time I have an opportunity.
How long have you lived in Newton and been a parishioner at OLG?
I moved to Newton, KS back in 2002, 23 years ago and I have been a parishioner of OLG ever since. Why Newton? Well, because I believe God's plans are perfect and he brought me here because it is where I was going to find my other half, with whom I was going to form my great, little family.
What are some things you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I like to spend time with the family, take Dakota, my pet, for long walks but one thing I enjoy most is cooking. There is a lot of diversity just within my home, I have deeply embraced the American culture. My husband says I make the best chili and hamburgers but he would rather have tacos and enchiladas.
What is a touching memory you have of your time being a parishioner at OLG?
I have many touching memories since being a parishioner of OLG, when my kids were in elementary school, they participated in the living Stations of the Cross during Lent. I helped with the practice and accompanying Mary all the way to the Calvary along with Jesus. In that experience, I realized how obedient, brave, and strong she had to be.
Is there anything else you’d like the reader to know about you?
Another touching moment was a time when the priest brought Jesus Christ in the Eucharist into the Church to worship him. It was in the evening. It was dark outside, the altar was decorated with flowers, a special type of purple light was lit, the priest kneeled in front of our Lord and the Spanish choir, including me, were singing beautiful songs; singing, praising, and glorifying God. The view and the moment felt like the perfect, most beautiful date.
Chiefs or Eagles? Who do you think will win the Super Bowl?
